Prospect-L Listserv

Welcome the Prospect-L listserv! This is a venue to communicate informally and quickly about news you think will interest the Prospect membership (and others who may decide to subscribe). You might send a notice about a recent book you want to recommend or react to, about a conference in your area, about a study group or inquiry group that is forming, about political or legal actions related to education.

We would also like to encourage you to post longer entries on the weblog at <http://www.prospectcenter.org/> or to comment on others' entries.

Here are the ways to send a message, unsubscribe, subscribe, or retrieve a message from listserv archive.

Messages to the list address itself are sent to all subscribers and should never be used for administrative requests. If you have forgotten everything, send a message to prospect-L-help@prospectcenter.org for the list prospect-L@prospectcenter.org. If the instructions returned do not help you solve the problem, send a message to prospect-L-owner@prospectcenter.org for human help, forwarding a message from the list and including any relevant information.

If you want to interact administratively with the mailing list prospect-L@prospectcenter.org, send an empty message (contents and subject are ignored) to prospect-L-command@prospectcenter.org, replacing ``command'' with the desired command. For some commands, you can add arguments. Here are a few examples, which will be discussed further below:

To send a message:
Address your email to prospect-L@prospectcenter.org.
The email will be sent to everyone who subscribes to the list.

To subscribe:
prospect-L-subscribe@prospectcenter.org
Subscribe me. Prospect-L will send you a confirmation request, and once you reply to it a message confirming that you are a subscriber.

To subscribe an email address different than the one you are using:
prospect-l-subscribe-user=gol.com@prospectcenter.org
Subscribe user@gol.com. Here the default subscriber address (the one you send from) is overridden by an argument to the -subscribe command. To subscribe any address of type user.name@host.dom just replace the ``@'' in the address with ``='' and add it after a hyphen to the command. In this case prospect-l-subscribe-user.name=host.dom@prospectcenter.org. Of course, ezmlm will ask user.name@host.dom to confirm the request.

To unsubscribe:
prospect-l-unsubscribe@prospectcenter.org
Unsubscribe me. Prospect-L will send a confirmation request to your address and remove the address once you reply.

To unsubscribe an email address different than the one you are using:
prospect-l-unsubscribe-user=gol.com@prospectcenter.org
Unsubscribe user@gol.com.

To retrieve a message from the archive:
prospect-l-get.123@prospectcenter.org
Get message 123 from the archive. If you specify a number that is larger than the highest message number in the archive, you'll receive the latest message.
